Perceptual Skills can assist in developing a better perspective of a troublesome,
dangerous circumstance or problem and determine a path of action to arrive at a workable
solution (Brammer & MacDonald, 2003). For example, during my placement, there was a
circumstance in which a conflict of interest may potentially arise. However, I efficiently talked
with my supervisor, and we devised a method to avoid the risk of this being an issue.
Cognitive Change Skills encourage the reformation of thoughts and the modification of
self-defeating thinking (Brammer & MacDonald, 2003). Positive thinking and a healthy state of
mind will assist in reducing this habit of thinking. As an asynchronous student, the university is
significantly different, and I was beginning to wonder if I would have enough self-discipline to
do the work more autonomously. I was starting to question myself until I remembered particular
goals I had achieved throughout the years. I began to feel more confident as I considered my
perseverance and tenacity. It was a wonderful reminder of how you may prevent self-defeating
thinking by reorganizing your views.
Support networking as a coping skill aids in the identification of social support systems
(Brammer & MacDonald, 2003). I lost my job a few years ago. As a coping strategy, I utilized
support networking and reached out to an old colleague who had been through similar situations
but was now gainfully employed. It boosted my sentiments of support and made me more
effective in my job search. During this time, I contacted a close friend I knew I could rely on to
be supportive and cheerful. It is critical to diversify support networks to avoid putting all of the
burdens on one person and to obtain a variety of help.
Stress Management and Wellness Skills relate to reducing tensions through
environmental and self-management techniques (Brammer & MacDonald, 2003). During one of

my Social Service Worker degree courses, I began learning about the significance of self-care. I
had always practiced self-care, but I had no idea how crucial and necessary it would be in this
line of work. I had a very triggering incident during placement, and I understood why; yet, while
being self-aware, I realized it was critical to take care of myself afterward.
Problem-solving skills are used to improve problem-solving abilities by applying models
to various challenges (Brammer & MacDonald, 2003). This month, I will return to school full-
time, work, and manage my difficult home life. I can utilize my existing problem-solving talents
as models to assist tackle the difficulties of juggling employment, studies, and family life.
Allowing for some flexibility and knowing that things may not always go as planned is essential.
Using problem-solving skills will enable me to make difficult decisions while enhancing my
resiliency and progress.
Description and Expression of Feelings: It can be challenging to adequately express
sentiments, especially when sensations such as dread, guilt, sadness, or even melancholy are
intense. Anger, fear, guilt, love, melancholy, and pleasure are accurately anticipated and
articulated in the report and expression of feelings (Brammer & MacDonald, 2003). When it
comes to expressing emotions, I believe self-awareness and communication are crucial.
