ANSWER

Introduction
One topic I am interested in pursuing or learning more about is related to the kind of
ethical challenges social workers face in their line of duty, especially during extremely difficult
times. In this regard, the book I have chosen is a research article by Banks et al. on the basis of
the insights that it has regarding the topic. The article titled “Practicing Ethically during Covid-
19” gives various insights into the challenges that social workers faced during the Covid-19
pandemic. In the same context, the authors also give various insights on the statistical facts
related to the topic. The COVID-19 pandemic created unprecedented challenges, especially for
social workers on a global scale. Afterward, social workers have had to adapt to new ways of
doing things, especially in relation to concepts such as remote working, while they continually
provide essential services to their given clients.
The aftermath of the pandemic has also highlighted the various existing vulnerabilities,
inequalities, and disparities that social workers have had to address in Society. In the words of
the authors, social workers have faced diverse ethical challenges in their line of duty, especially
during the pandemic, which are related to maintaining a high level of autonomy, privacy, dignity,
and trust, especially in remote relationships with the people we serve. Social workers have also
had to deal with issues related to limited resource allocation, striking a balance between the
rights and needs of people in their diverse backgrounds and making tough decisions regarding
whether or not to bend or break the rules and policies in favor of the interests of the people they
serve. In the same context, social workers have also had challenges handling their own emotions
and those of the people they serve in addition to ensuring self-care for themselves and their
colleagues.
