Capstone Project Summary
Organizational Background
As an international retail company, Bath & Body Works LLC sells various toiletry goods, including soap, body creams, shower gels, fragranced candles, and lotions. Bath and Body Works LLC was formed in 1990 in New Albany, Ohio. In addition to Saudi Arabia, the firm has almost 2,000 retail locations across six continents, making it one of the world's most significant health and body care retailers (Bath and Body Works, 2021). More than 20,000 people work for Bath & Body Works at its many locations worldwide. Revenue estimates are reasonable, with more than $12 billion expected in 2019 alone (Bath and Body Works, 2021). The impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on consumer spending is expected to drive this number higher in 2020. Despite this, Procter & Gamble, Dove, SVR, Avon Products Inc, Lush, and The Body Shop face intense competition from other health and body care companies. Despite stiff competition and crowded industry, Bath & Body Works has thrived by establishing itself as a desired mall brand.
Business Problem
As with other well-known companies like Victoria's Secret, it was formerly owned by Limited Brands until 2021. As of March 2021, the firm traded as Bath & Body Works Inc. with the ticker symbol BATH (BBWI). As a result of the breakup, Victoria's Secret is now known as Victoria's Secret & Co. and operates under the ticker symbol VS (VSCO). Limited Brands sold a majority interest in the faltering Victoria's Secret label to Sycamore Partners in 2020. Thus, this split may have happened then (Thomas, 2021). The COVID-19 epidemic, however, scuttled the agreement.
Because Limited Brands has been divided into two different companies, each has its problems (Burgelman et al., 2021). Specific to Bath & Body Works, recent operations have been successful, and the company plans to increase market share, sales, and profitability. The company's progress might be halted or even reversed if the drop causes managerial and operational difficulties. A strategic split necessitates introducing practical solutions to handle the turmoil and secure long-term corporate success. Bath & Body Works Inc. has just separated from Limited Brands, and this last project is aimed at assisting the company's management in handling the implications of the separation. The initiative is anticipated to cover all aspects of the firm, from management style to corporate values.
Accessibility of Data
The capstone project's goals need access to relevant organizational and industry information. The Bath and Body Works Inc. webpage has a significant quantity of material that might address the research's queries. In addition, the organization's SEC filings provide information about its financial health. This data will help you understand the company's performance before and after the split, and it will assist you in pinpointing the most impacted areas. Using the available performance data, it will be possible to provide more precise and accurate suggestions that align with the organization's requirements. Peer-reviewed literature on the company's divorce from Limited Brands will be required for this study. Google Scholar and other databases may look for relevant papers on the topic. It's also important to look at prior cases of similar splits in other companies to better understand the issues that accompany these methods and how to deal with them (Fujikawa & Landers, 2021; Velu et al., 2013). Using a simple Google search, you may get this information. Without substantial risks or limits, all the data essential to perform this study may be found in primary and secondary data sources.
