PART II:  CHARACTER EDUCATION

 

 

Responsibility, Integrity, Fairness, Perseverance, Cooperation, Compassion, and Respect

 

Write a corresponding learning experience that could be used to teach and practice each of the 8 character principles.

Responsibility - Instructors and teachers will explain various tasks and responsibilities to students. Such responsibilities include being punctual, timely completion of homework, not using mobile phones while in class, and avoiding classroom disruptions, among others. Class instructors and teachers will ask questions to assess the students’ understanding of their roles and responsibilities. Every student will have to sign a “Student Responsibility Contract” that binds them with the school administration on their responsibilities.

Integrity - The school administration will provide a small journal to students to write down their views on what they feel is unethical. They will write their comments anonymously to protect their privacy and dissect issues affecting them. At the end of a given period, all the issues raised shall be tackled openly and transparently that guaranteeing that they are discharged impartially.

Fairness – It shall be the responsibility of the teachers to explain to learners various ways of showing fairness in the school environment.

Compassion – As a way of demonstrating compassion, a teacher may organize students in a central place and explain a sad situation that may have happened to one of the students or teachers and show them how to care and be remorseful in such a situation. A teacher can explain using various scenarios to pass the message. The students will thereafter be made to explain how they felt after listening to similar stories.

Honesty – As a way of showing how to be honest, teachers will use examples of instances where honesty pays. A teacher may pose personal questions where they have had to be honest to parents, fellow students, or parents. It may be about students admitting to wrongdoing, saying unpopular truth, or showing up emotions and disappointments.
