Introduction

Policies are the laws that are put in place to result in an action plan. The action is the final
stage of implementing the policies that are put in place. Written directives are essential to the
police service as they act as guidelines that increase police officers' effectiveness. In the case
study, the Western District in Big City has released a crime data sheet that the commander is
supposed to review. The datasheet as released contains information about murders that took
place in the year 2018. The data does not have comprehensive information; hence it is
challenging to analyze the same. Such reports must provide more information to collect more
crime statistics. This paper will construct what a directive should look like and at the same time
ensure that there is the provision of additional information. The Directive aims to provide the
staff with a clear picture of the information collected and ensure that they know that a written
interpretation of the data should accompany the statistics.

Analysis of the current report

It is expected that the said statistics should include a report that interprets the data as
collected and is more elaborative of the data collected. The officers must realize the importance
of carrying out a comprehensive collection of data that should look at more details about the
murder. The murder statistics report is ineffective because of the lack of information, making it
challenging to analyze. Being the Western District commander, I have had the opportunity to
look at the crime statistics report as released and found it to be incomplete and incomplete. The
statistics do not contain in-depth written information to expand more about the data collected.
Intelligence is about gathering information and trying to analyze the said information to be able
to make sense. The data is uncollated, but looking at the statistics, one can tell that most of the
victims who commit homicides are males who are in their early twenties, with only two cases
being gang-related or associated with drugs. Therefore, officers need to ensure that they collect
adequate information because any inaccurate or incomplete information evidence that the person
who carried out the intelligence is not competent.

Additional information

When carrying out research or collecting information, it is necessary to collect all the
relevant information that may be important. Failure to collect adequate intelligence could result
in the inadequate analysis because the intelligence cycle may not get applied to all levels of the
problem. I, therefore, require information that is complete when collecting statistics. The data
should be accompanied by a comprehensive written report explaining the statistics accumulated
in detail. The collected data would be critical to investigate criminal trends in the local
communities and possibly find a solution to the local problems (Carter,2009). Asking the right

questions and getting the correct and elaborate information would get people to collaborate more
willingly and openly.
Asking the right questions is also an essential part of narrowing down what exactly
needs to be done. The statistics are used as a tool to predict criminal patterns and check whether
there are any similarities between the offenders. Therefore, it will become easier for researchers
collecting crime statistics to come up with the correct proposals on the necessary services to
reduce the crime levels. The information is crucial to the community because the law
enforcement officers would understand the crime rate and put in place the appropriate strategies
to reduce potential threats. As a matter of practice, it is necessary to ensure that when conducting
data collection, you know the questions to ask and who to request the said questions to avoid
offending people.

Expansion of data researched.

To increase the scope of the information already available, it is my suggestion that the
department partners with other offices and agencies get a more comprehensive report.
