English Comp I

  1. What is the relationship between beliefs and actions?

When applied alone, our beliefs are never adequate. If we follow through and take the right actions, then we shall have factored in the other half of the equation. Nevertheless, it is essential to realize that our actions depend on beliefs, and we need first to solidify our beliefs and thoughts. Now that our emotions and thoughts are dependent on our beliefs, they eventually help to shape our behaviors and actions.

  1. How does putting action into the equation make your belief more concrete? In what way is it a social statement?

After incorporating action int the equation, it shows that I can physically manifest whatever I am believing in, which makes my belief more concrete. It will now be part of my reality, a tangible belief only realized through action. The social statement becomes social as it portrays all my beliefs to others, and how these beliefs are being converted into actions. The social belief also alludes to the fact that people are willing to act on something that they believe in.

  1. With your belief now situated in a social context, where do you see people acting (behaving) based on your belief? Try to name at least three ways or places.

According to my worldview, decent human beings behave in ways that are kind, patient, and tolerant toward one another. I see myself and everyone around me acting in a kind, appreciative, and humble manner. Finally, in my mind's eye, I picture myself and other people acting in a way that is sincere, diligent, and tenacious. As a parent, it is the only way of setting a good example for a healthy relationship to children. According to Sherburne (1), my children would learn kindness, patience, and tolerance from me because I could be their role models. The same way that a happier home environment for the children results from the parents’ love for one another, they would learn sincerity, diligence, persistence, and other virtues from us if we uphold them in our daily lives.
