Extrinsic vs Intrinsic Motivation

I had a strong interest in learning about various languages during my childhood, an innate
ambition that propelled me to take action by independently exploring other cultures and
languages. I knew I had to better indulge in the culture and learn the language, and I even
decided to move to several nations and live there. I struggled to keep up with my readings when I
was in college. I participated in a study group with my buddies but was seldom on time. My
lecturer once said that everyone who read the entire month’s worth would receive more credit
points after a test. I could remain awake the whole night reading since the possibility of earning
an additional credit motivated me so much. Extrinsic elements are less likely to motivate me than
intrinsic ones. Extrinsic motivation is derived from outside sources, but intrinsic motivation
originates from the inside (Sprouts, 2021). Extrinsic motivation is less likely to inspire me than
internal motivation since the latter is deeper and more intimate.
As a naturally adaptable person, Tom can fit in and get along in society if he learns how
to make concessions, share, and abide by the rules (Sprouts, 2021). Extrinsic motivation could
help him in a variety of ways. While he might find the social contact and accolades that come
with extrinsic incentives advantageous, he might also like the challenge of striving to achieve an
external goal.
Mira is an extrinsically motivated person who may be able to adapt and behave
appropriately in society by making goals, looking for social support, and maintaining a happy
attitude (Sprouts, 2021). Due to intrinsic motivation, she might perform better, be more satisfied
with the task ahead, and love her job more. An extrinsic person with top intrinsic motivations
may also become more creative in their profession, as motivation has also been related to higher
creativity levels.
