Career choice is a factor as the majority prefer specific jobs due to the
expectations in the current traditional gender roles that affect the public.
Research claims that most companies with female-dominated
employees tend to receive less pay than the male-dominated. The
expectations of traditional gender roles affect employees’ choices and
decisions while seeking employment.
Few workplaces fail to provide the ultimate support to employees, thus
affecting their decision to seek empowerment in their companies; for
instance, lack of flexibility may hinder an employee from growing
professionally.
Women feel the maternity leaves they get are too long, which leads to
career progression as men have more time focussing on their
profession.
Some companies prefer male employees; hence, they are given priority
during hiring. Men receive a higher salary increment and promotions
faster than women. The gender pay gap is a challenge that we need to
fight against in the current world.
Let us unite and fight discrimination in workplaces and advocate for
equity among workers.

1. INTRODUCTION
HIJABSHIELD is a non-profit organization operating since 2008.
Its main objective is to empower women by advocating equality
and equity in their workplaces. The organization condemns
discrimination and promotes gender quality by creating awareness
of women in public and private workplaces. The Gulf Arab
Countries (GAC) are highly affected; thus, the decision of
HIJABSHIELD focuses on educating women in matters that may
influence their growth and development socially, economically, and
politically. The organization plans to develop an all-around woman
with skills to thrive in the fast-developing world today.

2. PROGRAMMES
HIJABSHIELD runs three programs that support women in their
workplaces.
I. Medicaid Program
HIJABSHIELD provides health insurance cover to
women as it protects the well-being of each of them to
increase women’s performance in their workplaces due
to health-related issues and reduce the rates of
infections. The program also mentors women facing
challenges in their marriages, workplaces, and society,
ensuring they do not fall victim to mental health or
depression.
II. Human Right Awareness Program
Educate women about their rights and protection
against physical, verbal, or domestic violence they
encounter. The program provides a rehabilitation center
for abused women as they offer psychological services
to each of them.
III. Empowerment Program
The program teaches women the importance of
education as it helps cater to their needs as they
pursue it. Women are provided with opportunities to

help them grow academically, socially, and financially
through a mentorship program.

CAWTAR was founded in 1993 in Tunisia as an independent
regional institution promoting gender equality in the Arab world
through research, training, networking, and advocacy. Arab
women’s work skills are amongst the world’s most underutilized
resources. Women are often still excluded from paid work, and
many do not utilize their skills in productive activities. CAWTARs
education will lead to women’s empowerment through education
share in the development of their communities.
