How Social Class Affects My Life

Several social classes in society or culture differentiate people and organizations. In the
social order, there are various definitions of what defines a "high" or "low" status. According to
Henslin et al, " "The components are often used by sociologists. It is this huge, closely related
group of individuals that Weber defined as a social class, and he characterized it like this:
Having these three things separates individuals from one another and allows them to live
different lives, each with their unique perspectives on life and the universe " (2015). As defined
by Weber, I fall within the lowest social classes. My family, school, physical and mental health,
political and religious affiliations, and so on have all been touched by my socioeconomic status.
When it comes to my children, my socioeconomic status has a significant impact on their
lives. It's difficult for my family because of my restricted financial resources. Parents in poverty
may have to decide whether to spend their money on laundry or milk for their infants (Henslin et
al., 2015). That is precisely what I am going through. When it comes to grocery shopping, I
usually choose items that are more about quantity than quality. Regarding food, I prioritize price
above quality, but quality always takes precedence when it comes to milk for my children. As a
result, I cannot afford to purchase children's toys or take them to the movies. My children's
schooling is negatively impacted since we live in a poverty-stricken area. In addition, several
infractions in the area around our home jeopardize our safety.
My social status impacts my academic performance. I was raised in a lower-middle-class
home in Vietnam where education was not valued. As a member of the lower middle class, I was
unable to afford the higher tuition costs that my upper-class peers were able to afford. Most of
the country's most famous colleges admitted students from private schools, and several
scholarships were available. After high school, my parents could not pay the tuition. I just

returned to school to further my degree to obtain a better career and more lucrative pay. Because
of my socioeconomic status, I have little choice but to attend a school with a poor academic
reputation rather than one with a good one. My family has given me a slew of creative
suggestions for roadblocks. While I can get by with a modest wage and no degree, nobody wants
me to go back to school.
My social status influences my physical and emotional well-being. I do not pay much
attention to my health because of my low money. I am unable to buy health insurance since I am
uninsured at work. When I'm unwell, I either walk to the drugstore down the street and get some
over-the-counter medication or go to a hospital with a discount program. According to Henslin et
al, "affluent individuals are free to pick their physicians and pay for the therapy and drugs they
need, regardless of their income or insurance coverage. On the other hand, the wealthy have the
resources and insurance to pay for this kind of treatment " (2015). I am limited to seeing any
available doctor and have no say in who I see. The only medications I can afford are generics or
cheaper alternatives if I have a prescription. As a result of my living circumstances, such as
inadequate sanitation and nutrition, I am more susceptible to contracting infectious illnesses. On
top of that, dealing with my money problems is a significant source of anxiety for me. Our
frequent fights about money have negatively impacted my mental health.
Destin et al found a link between socioeconomic status and religious affiliation. The
average socioeconomic position of Episcopalians is higher than the national average. Baptists
tend to draw people of lower socioeconomic status (2017). My knowledge of American religious
traditions is limited, but I believe Buddhism is not widely practiced. Being a Buddhist means, I
do not know how my socioeconomic status affects my faith. However, I am occupied with my
day job. In my busy schedule, I cannot make it to the temple. I am on the verge of losing my

religious identity. Buddhism is the predominant religion in my nation, with adherents from every
socioeconomic stratum flocking to it. Because the religious practices of the wealthy are more
expensive, the poor cannot afford them.
