Land Survey
Question One
After the survey, the surveyor will provide a map that details the property's boundaries,
history, and the different elements that make up the property. A sketch of the land will also be
necessary to describe the property after conducting fieldwork. The description of the land will
contain the address, location, adjacent property, and any other developments made thereon by the
owner.
Question Two
There are three types of land descriptions: the government rectangular survey report,
which is based on two intersecting lines: the principal meridians and the principal. The second
land description is the platted description which describes the parcel of land according to the plat
or recorded survey. The third description of the land is the metes and bound one that describes
the land's boundary lines from the beginning point, with each of the boundaries being described
according to the distance and the course it takes.
Question Three
When it comes to residential subdivisions, the most commonly used description is the lot
and block used. The description is also referred to as the platted description.
Question Four
The baseline is the primary line on which all the government rectangular surveys within a
given area are based. The baseline then meets the corresponding principal meridian on its point
of origin or at the land survey's initial point.

Generally, a section will contain 640 acres or what is referred to as a 1-mile square
containing the square mile.
Question Six
If a section measures 640 acres, then it would mean that the measurement, in this case,
would be 40 acres.
Question Seven
The basic requirements include the land, county, district, subdivision map, lot, block
number, state, unit numbers, and the recorded reference.
Question Eight
When it comes to surveying curved land, it is necessary to give out every information that
affects each of the land's curves. The element will describe the curves that they may contain,
such as the radius, length, concavity, direction, tangency, and radial bearings.
Question Nine
What is required when handling metes and bound descriptions s to have a physical
feature such as a road intersection, stake, or fence post, which will serve as the point of
beginning. The description is mostly used to describe irregularly shaped parcels that could not
have been recruited through the use of the accepted methods, hence relying on the land's natural
and cultural features.
Question Ten
A course in the direction of the line that is mostly associated with the meridian may also
refer to the magnetic north. On the other hand, distance is the length of the course measured
according to units such as feet or chains.
