Discussion Post
Hello everyone!
I hope your day was a success! This week, we read Online Claims: The NRA and Gun
Advocacy in Cyberspace. I would want to summarize the paper and explain how gun
advocacy has evolved due to social and historical circumstances.
This article was informative. It describes how social and historical context may expedite
the dissemination of knowledge. Especially when breaking news occurs, you learn about it
immediately via social media. When a local station posts information directly to the internet,
and you may read it minutes or hours after the event, news moves far more quickly than with
newspapers. I agree with Maratea's comments about how the internet may reach so many
more people faster (Maratea, 2015). All persons with an Internet connection might have
instantaneous access to all news online. With most users on Facebook, Instagram, etc., news
spreads within minutes, but it comes with repercussions. The negative aspect of this is all the
evaluations and opinions of those associated with the news.
Additionally, there is the issue of dependability. Are the details you are reading accurate?
In this essay, Maratea discussed shootings and the integrity of the information provided.
Everyone responded uniquely and based their thoughts on the material they had read. The
NRA can rapidly disseminate its message via the use of social media.
My final project subject is Intervention on the problem of college rape. Numerous
incidences of campus rape have dominated the collegiate environment. I believe that by using
social media, we can disseminate information to victims or educate the public about possible
college rapists. SOAR (students organized against rape) is a website and group that raises
public awareness about college sexual assaults and offers the necessary resources,

information, and support. Social media makes it much simpler to provide information on this
issue to pupils.
Thanks for reading!
