Writing Plan of a Historical Event

Writing Plan of a Historical Event

I. Historical Event: Woman Suffrage Movement (1850-1920)

The battle for equal rights for American women at the polls, in the workplace, and society as a whole was characterized by the woman suffrage movement, which was an important event in the annals of American history. Congress, through the fourteenth and fifteenth amendments, and the Supreme Court, through the case law Minor v. Happersett (1875), had previously denied women the right to vote; this movement sought to reverse that (McClellan, 2019). There was a division among proponents of women’s suffrage about the strategy and methods to use. At the same time, some advocated for a federal amendment. Others attempted to secure voting rights state-by-state. The effort eventually met with success in 1920 with the passing of the Nineteenth Amendment, which granted all American women the right to vote (Schaeffer, 2020). The historical event was significant for the political reasons of voting rights and had cultural and social impacts. It helped raise awareness about women’s issues and challenge the traditional roles and expectations placed on women.

II. Research Question: What factors contributed to the success of the woman suffrage movement in the United States?

This research aims to find out more about the circumstances that led to the victory of the women’s suffrage campaign in the United States. This research involves investigating the techniques and tactics used by proponents for woman suffrage, the involvement of significant persons and organizations in the campaign, and the social, political, and economic environment in which the struggle took place. By understanding these aspects, one may better understand the struggles and achievements of the woman’s suffrage campaign and how that effort finally resulted in the acquisition of voting rights for women in the United States.
